More milestones

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Hannah had her first haircut on Friday. Her hair flopped down into her eyes all the time so while my friend was cutting my hair, she gave Hannah a trim, too. Just a little bit to keep the hair out of her eyes and a teeny bit (maybe 1/8 inch) off the back just to even things up. Her daughter (one of our regular baby sitters) took pictures, which will make their way to our webpage once I get them!

Saturday night, she went to bed without her fishy movie playing. Just her princess night light. Sunday night she asked for the movie, so we turned it on but turned it off when we went to bed, after Hannah was asleep. Tonight, she went to bed on her own and didn't ask for the movie. Let's hope she sleeps all night and this is the start of a new trend!

They've been watching their Leapfrog “Letter Factory” DVD several times a week. Hannah asked for it again today, so I got it out. Sarah saw it and started yelling “buh buh buh buh!” Her favorite letter is B and B says Buh! 19 months old and already learning her alphabet. Wow!

So much for making plans…

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

I was supposed to go have lunch with a friend today. Woke up to 3 inches of snow! And it's been coming down steadily all morning. I'm not going to try to drive my car up our steep road in this mess. I know, I know. 3 inches isn't that much. But I don't want to chance it with the kids in the car. I'd probably spin out somewhere LOL. Not to mention the fact that the road I live on is a steep hill. We live at the bottom, dead-end part, of the hill. So we only have one neighbor. And no traffic. That means no cars going in and out and melting the snow, so it just sits there. And we're far enough off the main road that no plows come out here either.

Sarah's visit to the Orthopedist

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Took Sarah to the Orthopedist to have her bow-legs checked out. The doctor said it's not that bad, and they only brace if it's really severe. They've found that kids outgrow the bow-legs on their own, whether they're braced or not, so unless it's really bad, they just don't bother. I have to keep an eye on her and in about 6 months, if it hasn't gotten any better, take her in for hip x-rays just to make sure they're straight. But if I think it's gotten better in those 6 months, I don't even need to bother calling.

Glad something is finally easy around here!

This little piggy went to market…

Monday, February 19th, 2007

Sarah loves the little piggy game! She giggles and squeals when you get to “and this little piggy went WEE WEE WEE all the way home” and scrunches up her shoulders when you run your fingers up her leg and tummy.

Now she has started to do the game on ME. If I'm sitting where she can see my bare toes, she runs over and starts grabbing my toes. “Piggy, piggy, piggy. WEE WEE WEE home!”

Soooooooo ANGRY!

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Charlie and a co-worker had to go to Henderson, NV for the past couple of days for training for work. He was supposed to get back tonight at 11:30. I guess the stormy weather in Washington delayed the plane and they ended up canceling his flight, so they bumped him to an earlier flight, and didn't bother notifying them. Here's what made me the most angry… the earlier flight they bumped them to was a 6:05 flight and they were in line at the airport at 6:00 p.m. and no one said anything. They could have RUN to the plane and still made it home tonight, but noooooooo. Now they have to sit in the San Francisco airport from 10:00 p.m. tonight until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Waiting for the tooth fairy

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Someone gave us a pillow when Hannah was born, It's pink and it has a ribbon to hang it on the door, and a little pocket sewn on the front to put the teeth in. So this afternoon we told Hannah that she could put the teeth in the pillow and tonight the tooth fairy would bring her money. She cried because I wouldn't let her go to bed right then.

When we got Hannah ready for bed, we had her put the teeth into the pocket. She was oh, so careful, as she put the little teeth in the pocket one-by-one. She carefully hung the pillow on the doorknob (we didn't want to mess with going under her pillow LOL) and Charlie went to tuck her into bed. She was asking all kinds of questions about the tooth fairy and Charlie answered them all, and told her if she saved up her money, she could buy something nice, like a new dolly or something. Suddenly she stood up, put her hands to her side and determinedly announced “I'm going to go get the money from the tooth fairy!”

Charlie laughed and reminded her that she had to sleep first and the tooth fairy would come during the night. So Hannah laid back down and said she was going to buy a new binky for Sarah with her money.

Awwwwww

Hannah's visit to the dentist

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Today was Hannah's big dentist appointment. She had to have her top front 4 teeth removed due to bottle rot :( and 4 fillings, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom. The dental assistant said she has a high bacteria count in her mouth, so she's always going to be battling for healthy teeth. Just like her mom & dad. *sigh* Aren't genetics wonderful? bah.

We got there a few minutes early and Hannah had time to play with the doll house and everything else for a few minutes before it was time to take the medication that would make her relax. She did so well taking the nasty tasting medicine that they gave her TWO prize tokens! This dentist office has one of those machines like at the grocery store where you put in a coin and turn the handle to get a prize. This machine has about 8 different compartments with different prizes. Hannah chose a super ball and a stretchy toy, which turned out to be a heart with arms and legs. Interesting. Then we had to sit around and wait for the medicine to kick in. It wasn't long before Hannah was wobbling a bit as she ran around and played; before long, she was very whiny and pitiful about being hungry. Poor thing wasn't allowed to have breakfast before we went. From what the dental assistant said, the medicine would probably make her even more whiny than usual. Nice. Ha.

Finally it was Hannah's turn to go in the back office, and she went willingly with the nurse. They had loud kid's music playing in the back, presumably to help the kids relax, but really, I think it's just so the Moms in the waiting room can't hear their child fussing and get worried. I didn't hear a thing, but they told me that she was fussy and pretty much cried the whole time. That's why she was in a papoose board, too, to keep her from flailing around. I never saw the actual board, but they had showed me a picture of a child in one when we came to the exam appointment a couple weeks ago.

She was pretty hysterical when they brought her out to me afterwards. She was a little freaked out because her mouth and nose were numb, and the stress was making her cough pretty bad. I told them I thought it was related to when she had croup a bit over a year ago and she'd be fine soon. Sure enough, as soon as she quit crying and fell asleep in the car on the way home, she stopped coughing and hasn't coughed at all since we got home, and it's been 3 hours already.

She's happily eating pudding (we have special pudding with added protein, like a protein snack but in pudding form, not too bad tasting really) and mashed potatoes for lunch, and anxiously awaiting her “purple snack” - I have grape jello chilling in the fridge for later.

Woo! A quiet afternoon for me!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

I took the kids to the mall this morning to get their portraits taken (I had Sarah wear the same sweater set that Hannah wore 2 years ago for HER 18 month pictures - so cute! And the photographer remembered and said “Oh, she's wearing the same sweater!”) and I was going to let them play in the little playground afterwards.

However, neither one of them were listening or obeying! I warned Hannah that if she didn't sit down and wait for Mommy to finish choosing which pictures to purchase, we were going straight to the car, no playground. Well, guess what happened. We didn't get to go to the playground. There was much weeping and wailing and I was ready to give my kids to anyone who passed by and wanted them.

As I was putting them in the car, I was struggling with the diaper bag, as it got stuck on the magnadoodle in the pocket. Just then, one of my friends from church pulled up next to me in the parking lot and laughed at me struggling with the stroller. As we chatted for a moment, she offered to take Hannah home with her to play with her daughter (6 months older than Hannah). Of course I said yes! LOL… so we put Hannah's car seat into her truck, and I brought Sarah home. I knew that Sarah would nap, and my friend did too, which is why she offered to take Hannah. She said with Sarah napping, and Hannah playing at her house, I could have a quiet afternoon! Yay! I had watched my friend's 2 daughters on Monday for a few hours while she ran errands, so it's a nice trade. :)

Ah…. sleep!

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

If I'm remembering correctly, Sarah slept through the night the past 2 nights! For about a week now, I've been refusing to go get her out of the crib when she woke during the night. Her crib is in our room and we would just say from across the room “Sarah, you're ok. Lay down and go to sleep.” etc., until she laid back down and went to sleep. Usually less than 5 minutes or so. Last night she fussed once around 1:30, but only fussed and said Mommy and went back to sleep with no comments from us. I don't remember having to say anything to her the night before, either.

I hope this is an indication of things to come. Fingers crossed!
