This afternoon the kids wanted a little snack, so I was giving them each a Tillamoo - pre-portioned snack-size pieces of Tillamook cheddar cheese. Yum! Hannah wanted something in addition to the cheese…
Hannah: Mom, may I have something else, too, please?
Mom: No, the cheese is enough for now. Dinner's not too far off.
Hannah: But Mooooooooooom… cheese needs a friend!
Sometimes all I can do is laugh and shake my head.
I'm not afraid to go up on the roof of a house anymore! I used to be just terrified of it. This summer a bunch of us climbed up on our roof to watch the 4th of July fireworks and I did ok, only a little nervous during the transition from the ladder to the roof and back.
Today we went to a friend's house and I climbed up a tree and onto their roof to collect walnuts that had fallen from the tree. I wasn't nervous at all! I got two plastic grocery bags full of walnuts, just for picking them up off the ground and sweeping them off the roof. I walked all over the roof with a broom, sweeping the leaves and nuts onto the ground where the girls helped collect them in buckets. They thought it was hilarious when I'd try to throw walnuts down into their buckets for them to catch, too.
Now I get to lay the nuts out to dry - many of them are still in the soft husk that grows around the hard shell. Then I get to crack them all and should have plenty of nuts to make lots of yummy things this holiday season. Did you know that Walnut Balls (our family's vegetarian version of meat balls) are fanTAStic when made with homegrown walnuts? Yup, they are! I can hardly wait!
