Headed to the Coast

Friday, October 31st, 2008

We’re packing up to head over to the Oregon Coast this afternoon - one of my favorite places!  It’s supposed to rain all weekend, but oh well.  Rainy days at the Oregon Coast are a lot different than a rainy day at the beach in SoCal.  We’re going to be staying in a motor home with friends - hopefully our campfires won’t get rained on too badly!

We’ll be visiting the Gold Beach church while we’re there - the pastor there was the one who married us, and was our youth pastor from the time I was 14 years old.  He and his wife were missionaries to Nepal before that, and they’ve planned to retire there in a couple of years.  They’ve received a call, though, to go back there now, as missionaries again.  They’re leaving in January.  So, our family, including my parents and Grandma, are going over to see them before they leave.   They’re coming over for the day, though, not camping with us.

Just got back from the clinic; Sarah has bronchitis.  I think it’s aspiration bronchitis - she was perfectly fine yesterday.  Even today she has no fever, her ears, throat and nose are fine - it’s just the rattly, raspy cough.  On the way home last night she was drinking some water and choked on it.  I’m pretty sure she inhaled it, because she had a major coughing fit.  Within an hour, she was wheezy and raspy, and woke up around 3 a.m. sounding horrible, wheezing and rasping and rattling in her chest.  She’s not coughing a lot, but when she does it sounds wet.  Anyway, we got her hooked up with some albuterol for the wheezing, and I think they’re going to try to get us a nebulizer to use for breathing treatments as necessary.  Doesn’t hurt that two of the ladies we’ll be camping with, are nurses!

Better get finished packing…  we leave in just about 4 hours!

It’s baaaack

Well.  I don’t know how or why, but my website is back.  Ok, ok, I know you didn’t actually see it go anywhere, but I haven’t been able to access it for several days!  So to me, it was gone.  I haven’t changed anything since yesterday when I was still unable to get on here.  But for some reason this morning, it’s back.  We now return to our regularly-scheduled-at-least-when-I-get-a-chance blogging.

Please hold, we are experiencing technical difficulties

I signed on to my blog this morning to find that my firewall is apparently blocking my site from my own computer! I’m pecking this entry out on my iPod Touch. I’ll try to get it figured out soon, but until then, I won’t be posting much. But hey, what’s new, right?

Reader’s Digest version

Friday, October 17th, 2008

I wanted to submit this little anecdote to the Reader’s Digest but the submission form on their website is broken. I’m lazy and don’t feel like digging out the info on sending it by mail, so I’m just going to share it here. They’ve never published my funny tidbits anyway.

Below is what I wrote for them, in my “Reader’s Digest” writing style, rather than my usual blog-writing style.

3-year-old Sarah and 5-year-old Hannah had enjoyed some melon at their Grandma’s house. In the car as we were leaving, Sarah began to cry that she hadn’t finished her “antelope”. Hannah corrected her, saying that it was called “cantaloupe”. Sarah asserted, “I can call it antelope if I want!” Hannah again corrected, “But it’s cantaloupe!” Sarah shouted “I don’t know that word, Hannah!”

As if there wasn’t enough going on

Now my favorite ergonomic keyboard is dead! I wasn’t even at the computer, I was tying Sarah’s shoes, and I heard a “ding-dong” kind of noise from a USB being unplugged from the computer. Came back over and the keyboard won’t work. Checked all the connections, rebooted (twice) and still nothing. Then I noticed that the cable was stuck between the desk and the keyboard tray. Oh noooooez! The casing is split and I can see there’s a wire broken. I love that keyboard!! I’ve been on an ergonomic keyboard for 10+ years now. I can’t stand the little flat ones that come with the computer or that you can buy for $10. I feel so scrunched up when I try to type on one of those. But until I can find out if the cable can be soldered back together, I’m stuck using the one off Charlie’s computer (which is dead right now, anyway).

*sigh*

Another busy day…

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

Yes, today is going to be another busy, busy day.  But I’ve had a lot of those lately, accounting for the lack of blog entries!

Today I have to do a load of whites (or the kids won’t have their t-shirts for tonight!),  type the church bulletin, do the weekly electronic billing (that takes up a good amount of time), get all of us ready to go,  go down to the municipal building to pay a speeding ticket *stamps foot and makes a face*, drop the statements off at the clinic, go pick up Charlie’s paycheck and take it to the bank, go see my endocrinologist, get some dinner-on-the-go, then go to Adventurer Club!  Phew.  I’m tired just thinking about it.  And somewhere in between all that, I need to post some payments and charges for the clinic, too!

Better get busy…
