Yogurts and other cute Sarah-isms

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Mom reminded me last night that I hadn’t blogged what Sarah said recently.  I thought I had, but I guess I had only put it on my Facebook status.

A few weeks ago Sarah was watching Shrek 2 in the other room.  If you haven’t seen Shrek and don’t know who he is, you need to know that Shrek is an Ogre.  He rescues Fiona, a princess who has a spell cast on her that turns her into an Ogre at sunset every night.  Long story short, in the sequel, Shrek took a potion to become human because he thought Fiona would love him more, even though they were already married. At the end they kiss and turn back into Ogres, their true forms.

So Sarah comes in and says, waving her hands for emphasis,  “Mom!  Guess what?  Shrek and Fiona just KISSED and they turned back into YOGURTS!”

She still says yogurts if she talks about them.  It’s too cute!

Another funny…  a couple weeks ago we had a friend over, Stephanie, with her two boys, playing games on a Saturday night.  Sarah handed something to Stephanie and she responded “Thanks, babe.”  Sarah looked at her and said, VERY seriously but politely, “I’m not your babe.  Those boys over there [pointing] are your babes.  See that lady [points at me] and that man [points at Charlie]?  I’m THEIR babe.”  So matter-of-fact!

It’s a struggle.

The title of this post might sound a bit ominous, but really, it’s just another cute kid-ism.

Sarah has been going around today saying “This is a struggle!” over a lot of things. It’s too funny! Taking off her pajamas, she got her foot stuck and asked for help, saying “This is a struggle!”. Getting dressed and trying to get her sweater on, “This is a struggle!”.

What a nut!

Catching Up

I went to the physical therapist yesterday, and she was quite pleased with the progress I’ve made with my ankle. I still have to wear a brace when I’m out and about, for another 4 weeks. I notice it gets tired and a bit achy toward the end of the day, but the brace helps. I also am still icing it in the evenings, and that helps too.

Today in church, the girls and I sang for special music. It was their first time, and they both did a great job! They both sang out, and kept the microphones right up by their mouths. I’ll have an mp3 of it tomorrow if anyone wants to hear it. They aren’t fantastic singers yet, but it’s sure cute.

Then this evening we had a ‘Valley View in Revue’ program. We called it a show and tell, but it was pretty much a talent show. We had a lot of great acts, and a really good turn-out. I think there were about 80 chairs set up and people were still lined up against the back wall, standing room only! The Adventurer Club started the program with the kids all in costumes, singing Old McDonald Had a Farm. One boy dressed as the farmer, while the other kids dressed up as cows, pigs, dogs, cats, lambs, and one girl wore our costume that looks like she was riding a horse. It was so cute!

There wasn’t a lot of singing, really, only 3 kids’ acts and one ladies’ group. The rest were readings, a couple piano solos, jokes, etc. Grandma was talked into displaying a couple of her quilts and I think it was great. That is definitely a talent!

The lady from the social committee that was organizing the acts asked me to do balloon animals. I did a couple, telling about how I taught myself to make them, and about the time I did a demonstration in my speech class on making them. I didn’t pop any, yay! After the program was over, I spent about 45 minutes making balloons for all the kids- I had quite the crowd around me! I was even asked to do balloons at a couple of upcoming events- a birthday party next month, and a charity event this summer. Better practice so I can maybe make more than doggies, kitties, bunnies, basic swords, etc.!
